THE 6 STEPS OF SOLVING START UP PROBLEMS

My air motor has a problem at start up. However, as soon as the motor is running, the problem disappears. What is the solution?

THE 6 STEPS OF PROBLEM SOLVING

IS THE MOTOR SUITABLE FOR YOUR APPLICATION?

If the motor is used for 24 hour nonstop, then we recommend for those applications a turbine motor or a gear motor.
A vane air-motor generally is best suited for regular and interrupted cycle times.

What type of environment is the air motor exposed to?

BASIC LINE air motors are used dry, standard production environments.
The ADVANCED LINE airmotors with stainless steel housing are sealed and can therefore work in extreme environments, such as in steam and dusty. Our ADVANCED LINE motors are specifically adapted for different uses. For use in salt water, housing materials and seals are specifically designed. Motors created for the food industry can be made with housing that withstands cleaning. In the medical industry specific vane material can be used that will withstands the sterilisation process.

WHAT AIR QUALITY IS USED?

The supply air should be dry and free from dirt particles. Dust, condensation or foreign particles in the air maz damage the air-motor gearing. The optimum durability and maximum performance of the air motor is obtained if you lubricate the motor wil oil free of resin and acid. One to two drops of oil pwer cubic meter of compressed air is all that is required. Too much oil can result in performance loss.

DEPRAG Air Motors from the Basic Line and Advanced Line are also suitable for oil free operation.

the resultin gpower penaltz of approximately 15% should be taken into consideration.

DO YOU SUPPLY A SUFFICIENT AIR-VOLUME?

Are there any constructions (valves, fittings, connectors) that throttle the airsupply or air exhaust?

Do you use hoses that have a sufficient internal diameter, are no longer than 3 meters and are kink free? Every additional meter between the compressor and the air-motor leads to pressure loss and subsequently reduces motor performance.

DO YOU SUPPLY SUFFICIENT AIR PRESSURE?

Often, there is sufficient pressure at the compressor, however, it does not reach the air motor. Measure the air pressure directly on the air inlet of the motor. Is the available pressure sufficient for your application?

WAS THE AIRMOTOR SERVICED AT REGULAR INTERVALS?

How long (how many cycles) was the motor in operation?
How often a pneumatic motor has to be serviced, depends on many different factors. The duty cycle, application environment and usage conditions, are just as important as the gear size and the torque load a motor has to handle.

TECHNICAL TROUBLESHOOTING POSSIBILITIES TO ASSIST WITH THE START UP BEHAVIOR OF AN AIR MOTOR

Functionality Test: Can you hear the air streaming through the motor, even though the motor does not start?
If this is the case, then the problem may be that the vanes cannot move outwards, or that no working chambers created.
If the motor does not have to start against a load, then the integration of spring-loaded vanes may dramatically improve the start performance of the motor.

If the problem is still not solved, then our application experts will gladly help find a solution through corrective actions.
