FAQ

5 Steps to Fix Insufficient Power

My motor does not achieve a power output as described in the technical data.
What could be the cause?

THE 5 STEP CHECK

DO YOU SUPPLY SUFFICIENT AIR PRESSURE?

Often, there is sufficient pressure at the compressor, however, it does not reach the air motor. Measure the air pressure directly on the air inlet of the motor. Is the available pressure sufficient for your application?

DO YOU SUPPLY SUFFICIENT AIR QUANTITY?

Are there any constructions (valves, fittings, connectors) that throttle the air supply or air exhaust?

Do you use hoses that have a sufficient internal diameter, are no longer than 3 m and are kink free? Every additional meter between the compressor and the air-motor leads to pressure loss and subsequently reduces motor performance.

WHAT AIR QUALITY IS USED?

The supply air should be dry and free from dirt particles. Dust, condensation or foreign particles in the air may damage the air-motor or the gearing. The optimum durability and maximum performance of the air motor is obtained if you lubricate the motor with oil free of resin and acid. One to two drops of oil per cubic meter of compressed air is all that is required. Too much oil can result in performance loss.
DEPRAG Air Motors from the BASIC LINE and ADVANCED LINE are also suitable for oilfree operation.
The resulting power penalty of approximately 15% should be taken into consideration.

WAS THE AIRMOTOR SERVICED AT REGULAR INTERVALS?

How long (how many cycles) was the motor in operation?
How often a pneumatic motor has to be serviced, depends on many different factors. The duty cycle, application environment and usage conditions, are just as important as the gear size and the torque load a motor has to handle.

IS THE AIR MOTOR SUITABLE FOR YOUR APPLICATION AND CORRECTLY SIZED?

What type of production environment is the air motor exposed to?
BASIC LINE air motors are used in dry, standard production environments.
The ADVANCED LINE airmotors with stainless steel housing are sealed and can therefor work in extreme environments, such as in steam and dust. Our ADVANCED LINE motors are specifically adapted for different uses. For use in salt water, housing materials and seals are specially designed. Motors created for the food industry can be made with housing that withstands cleaning. In the medical industry a specific vane material can be used that will withstand the sterilisation process.
